Flames lit up Tehran late Saturday after Israeli strikes hit a major oil storage facility, marking what appeared to be the first attack on a civilian industrial site in the week-old war. Israel confirmed targeting the fuel depot, while Iranian state media blamed the United States and Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed 'many surprises' in the next phase of the conflict.
The violence spread across the region. Israeli strikes killed people in southern Lebanon and Beirut, while missile and drone attacks struck Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, causing additional deaths and damage. A missile also landed inside the United States Embassy compound in Baghdad, though no casualties were reported.
Inside Iran, divisions emerged within the leadership council formed after the death of the supreme leader in earlier strikes. President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized for attacks on neighboring countries and called for diplomacy, while hard-line officials signaled that military operations would continue. United States President Donald Trump rejected calls for a settlement and warned that Iran would be hit harder, saying the United States was not seeking negotiations.
The conflict has killed more than a thousand people in Iran, hundreds in Lebanon and several in Israel, while also claiming the lives of United States troops. Regional governments have expressed concern about the widening war, as missile interceptions and falling debris have caused civilian casualties beyond the main battle zones.
