The war between the United States, Israel and Iran entered its tenth day following the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a targeted strike on Tehran. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been named as his successor, assuming leadership as Iran continues missile and drone attacks across the region. The conflict, which began with joint strikes on Iranian military and strategic sites, has since expanded across multiple fronts, drawing in Lebanon and several Gulf states.
Casualties have mounted sharply, with more than 1,200 people reported killed in Iran, hundreds in Lebanon and dozens in Israel, along with American service members. Israeli strikes have heavily targeted Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, displacing more than half a million people. Iran has retaliated with waves of missiles and drones aimed at Israel, American military bases and regional infrastructure, while Israel has intensified air operations inside Iran.
The fighting has disrupted key shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz and shaken global energy markets, pushing oil prices above 100 dollars a barrel. Missile interceptions and falling debris have caused damage in countries including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. The United States has begun withdrawing non essential diplomatic staff from parts of the Gulf as fears grow of a wider regional escalation.
