An explosion damaged a synagogue in Liege, Belgium, early in the morning, shattering its windows and those of a building across the street. Police reported no injuries and said the incident caused only material damage.
Prime Minister Bart De Wever condemned the attack, calling antisemitism an assault on the country's values and society. He expressed solidarity with the Jewish community in Liege and across Belgium and vowed that such hatred must be fought unequivocally.
Michael Freilich, the country's only Orthodox Jewish Member of Parliament, criticized the government’s handling of antisemitism cases. He argued that dismissed cases and a lack of prosecutorial priority have created a 'climate of impunity,' warning that physical attacks are a predictable outcome and urging authorities to take stronger action.
