President Donald Trump described the ongoing war with Iran as a 'short-term excursion' from his domestic economic agenda, while acknowledging that the conflict has driven up costs for Americans. Speaking at a Republican fundraising event in Florida, he argued that military action was necessary to eliminate Iranian leaders and prevent the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Trump asserted that, alongside Israeli forces, the United States is 'crushing the enemy' and significantly degrading Iran’s drone, missile, and naval capabilities. He claimed that dozens of Iranian naval vessels have been destroyed and that successive layers of Iranian leadership have been eliminated, vowing that operations will continue until Iran is 'totally and decisively defeated.'
The president maintained that Iran posed an imminent threat, insisting that without military strikes the country would have attacked within a week. This claim comes despite reported briefings from the Defense Department indicating no intelligence of a planned preemptive strike. Trump also said regional Arab nations have supported the United States and Israel during the conflict, rather than siding with Iran.
