The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that it carried out drone strikes in Tehran over the past day targeting members of Iran's Basij paramilitary force. The military released footage of the strikes and said the operations focused on checkpoints recently established by the Basij across several areas of the capital.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, the Israeli Air Force targeted both the checkpoints and operatives stationed there after identifying their activity. Iranian media reported that several members of Iran's internal security forces and Basij personnel positioned at the checkpoints were killed.
The military described the Basij as part of Iran's security apparatus, accusing the force of conducting terror activities and leading violent crackdowns on internal protests. It said the group has been responsible for widespread arrests and the use of force against civilian demonstrators, particularly in recent unrest.
