The Rajkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the director general of shipping to instruct major ports, including Deendayal Port Authority and Mundra Port, to provide immediate relief to exporters affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The chamber said the crisis has severely disrupted international logistics, leaving cargo stranded at ports and airports and sharply increasing associated costs.
Exporters are reportedly facing an estimated 250 percent rise in logistics expenses on several routes. The surge includes higher demurrage, container detention and terminal storage charges, along with new war risk surcharges, increased marine insurance premiums and elevated container freight rates.
The chamber pointed out that the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority has already introduced relief measures such as waivers on ground rent, significant reductions in charges for perishable cargo, extended storage timelines and support with customs procedures. It has called on other major ports to implement similar measures at the earliest to ease the financial burden on exporters.
