Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that international attention must remain firmly on Ukraine despite the ongoing conflict involving Iran. During talks in London, Sir Keir stressed that Russia must not be allowed to benefit from instability in the Middle East, particularly through rising global oil prices or any easing of sanctions.
Sir Keir warned that President Vladimir Putin should not gain economic or political advantages from the situation, noting concerns that higher energy prices or relaxed restrictions could bolster Moscow’s position. The United States has temporarily eased some restrictions on Russian oil to stabilise global supply following military action involving Iran.
Mr Zelensky thanked the United Kingdom for its steadfast support during a difficult winter marked by Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. He also met with King Charles at Buckingham Palace, where the monarch reiterated his support for the Ukrainian people and expressed hope for a just and lasting peace.
