An Uzbek construction worker was arrested after posting a video during a missile siren in which he appeared to compare people running for shelter to rats. In the clip, filmed as sirens sounded, he asked viewers if they could hear the alerts and remarked that everyone was running away, saying there was nobody outside.
An Israeli citizen filed a police complaint after seeing the video and accompanied officers during the arrest, translating between the detainee and police. The worker was detained on suspicion of disturbing public order rather than incitement, which would have required additional legal approval.
Following the arrest, the complainant claimed that officials from Uzbekistan's embassy had been involved and that the worker would be deported. However, the embassy later said the detention was unlawful, and the man has since been released and remains in Israel.
The incident comes amid calls from the national security minister for stricter enforcement against perceived incitement following the outbreak of war with Iran, including directives affecting the treatment of prisoners accused of expressing support for the country.
