United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres says he is actively cooperating with President Donald Trump's Board of Peace on efforts tied to Gaza, despite previously criticizing the initiative. He noted that the board’s mandate, approved by the Security Council, focuses on supporting the reconstruction of Palestinian homes and infrastructure.
Guterres welcomed the board’s objective of funding and delivering the basic elements of a reconstruction plan for Gaza. He emphasized that the United Nations is working with the structures created under that specific mandate to help address urgent humanitarian and rebuilding needs.
However, Guterres dismissed the need for the board beyond its Gaza-related responsibilities. He described its broader agenda as a personal project of President Trump and argued that effective peace efforts must remain grounded in international law and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
