The European Commission has urged member states to lower their natural gas storage targets following disruptions linked to the war in Iran, which has driven up energy prices and strained supplies. According to a report, the commission is advising countries to reduce their storage filling goal to 80 percent of capacity, down from the previous target.
Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen called for the adjustment to be made as early as possible in the filling season to provide certainty and reassurance to market participants. The move is intended to ease pressure on demand and stabilize the market as Europe navigates renewed volatility in global energy supplies.
