An Iranian man and a Romanian woman have been charged after attempting to enter a naval base in Scotland that houses the United Kingdom's nuclear-armed submarines. The two individuals, aged 34 and 31, were detained on Thursday at the facility located about 40 miles northwest of Glasgow.
Police Scotland said the pair are scheduled to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday. Authorities have not released their names or the specific charges, in line with standard practice before a court appearance.
The naval base, known as Faslane, is home to the core of the country's submarine fleet, including vessels equipped with nuclear weapons. The United Kingdom has maintained a nuclear deterrent since the 1950s, currently relying on four Royal Navy submarines armed with Trident missiles.
