After attacks on Dimona and Arad, Education Ministry says all schools to go remote on Sunday and Monday

All in-person classes across Israel will be canceled on Sunday and Monday following Iranian missile strikes on the southern cities of Dimona and Arad that left dozens injured. Education Minister Yoav Kisch said the decision was made in consultation with the Israel Defense Forces Home Front Command and applies to all schools, including special education programs, with a return to distance learning.

Schools had only recently begun reopening in lower-risk areas after a two-week closure due to the war with Iran. Under a government color-coded system, communities marked as lower risk were permitted to resume classes if adequate protected spaces were available.

Despite that approval, several municipalities, including Dimona, Ashkelon and Ariel, chose not to reopen. Education Ministry data showed that fewer than half of eligible students returned to classrooms on the first day back, reflecting ongoing safety concerns among local authorities and families.
