Iran's parliamentary speaker has warned that the country will 'irreversibly' destroy energy infrastructure across the region if its own power plants are attacked. He said that any strike on Iran's facilities would make critical energy and oil sites throughout the region legitimate targets.
The warning follows a threat from United States President Donald Trump, who said he would target Iranian power plants if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route. Iran's move to close the waterway has already driven energy prices higher.
The speaker added that further escalation would keep energy prices elevated for a prolonged period. Iran has already been accused of carrying out attacks on energy facilities elsewhere in the region, raising concerns about broader instability in global energy markets.
