Saudi Aramco chief executive Amin Nasser has cancelled his planned appearance at a major energy conference in Houston to remain in Saudi Arabia amid the escalating war with Iran, according to a source familiar with the matter. Nasser, a regular headline speaker at the annual gathering of global energy leaders, will also not provide a recorded message for the event.
The conflict, which began with United States and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, has disrupted global markets and triggered Iranian attacks across the Gulf. The violence has effectively shut the Strait of Hormuz and targeted regional energy infrastructure, including facilities linked to Saudi Aramco.
In response, Saudi Aramco has redirected millions of barrels per day of crude oil from its eastern operations to its western coast to bypass the strait. The company has also reduced output by about 2 million barrels per day from two fields. Other regional energy leaders, including the head of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, are also scaling back in person participation at the Houston event, reflecting the broader impact of the crisis on the industry.
