Iran has threatened to attack electrical plants across the Middle East that supply power to United States military bases, escalating tensions as President Donald Trump’s deadline over the Strait of Hormuz approaches. The warning was delivered in a statement aired on state television by Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.
Tehran said it would retaliate if its own power facilities were targeted, vowing to strike the power plants of what it called the occupying regime, referring to Israel, as well as facilities in regional countries that provide electricity to United States bases. The statement also warned that economic, industrial and energy infrastructure involving American interests could be targeted.
The threat follows Trump’s warning that the United States would strike Iranian power plants within 48 hours if the strategically vital waterway remains effectively closed due to Iranian attacks on shipping. The exchange marks a sharp escalation in an already volatile standoff affecting the Gulf region.
