Flights to Dubai and other cities in the United Arab Emirates are operating with large numbers of empty seats as concerns grow over airline safety during the ongoing conflict with Iran. Images shared online show rows of vacant seats on planes bound for Dubai, while data indicates that dozens of aircraft have taken off or landed within minutes of incoming fire warnings. Several planes parked at airports across the region have also been struck during missile and drone attacks.
Dubai International Airport was temporarily closed after an Iranian drone hit a fuel tank, causing a major fire and forcing flights to divert or return to their departure cities. Although authorities described the damage as minimal and reported no injuries, international carriers including British Airways have suspended routes to destinations in the region, citing continued uncertainty and airspace instability.
Despite the risks, airlines based in the United Arab Emirates have restored hundreds of daily flights, operating at a reduced capacity compared with pre-conflict levels. Officials say enhanced safety measures, designated flight corridors and military protection are in place. At the same time, authorities have arrested hundreds of people for filming or sharing content related to the attacks, as the government moves to control information and maintain the country’s image as a safe destination.
