Iraq has condemned any aggression or targeting of Gulf states and Jordan, pledging to work jointly to address security threats. The foreign ministry said the government categorically rejects attacks against these countries and is prepared to act responsibly and swiftly to confront such challenges.
The statement came a day after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan urged Baghdad to immediately prevent attacks launched from Iraqi territory. The joint appeal followed incidents attributed to armed groups operating inside Iraq.
Iraq has been increasingly drawn into regional tensions following strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February. Iran-backed factions in Iraq have claimed attacks on foreign interests in the country and the wider region, with Kuwait and Jordan reporting they were targeted by Iraqi armed groups.
