An 11-year-old boy, Jawad Younes, and his uncle, Ragheb Younes, were buried in the southern Lebanese village of Saksakiyeh after they were killed in an Israeli air strike that hit their family compound. The attack is part of an escalating offensive against the armed group Hezbollah, with Lebanese health officials reporting more than 1,100 deaths since the violence intensified earlier this month.
Mourners gathered in large numbers as air strikes echoed nearby. Jawad’s mother wept beside her son’s body, while his father questioned why their home had been targeted, saying children had been playing there at the time. Family members and local officials said the family had no military involvement. Several relatives survived the strike, including an aunt who remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
The funeral came amid a broader surge in violence across southern Lebanon. Other recent strikes have killed additional civilians, journalists, and paramedics. Lebanese authorities and rights groups have accused Israel of targeting protected groups, while Israel says it is striking Hezbollah positions.
More than one million people have been displaced as towns and villages continue to be bombarded. Despite the mounting humanitarian toll, both Israel and Hezbollah have vowed to continue fighting, leaving many Lebanese families bracing for further loss.
