CNN journalist put in CHOKEHOLD by Israeli soldiers before detained

A journalist working for an American news network was placed in a chokehold by Israeli soldiers while reporting in the West Bank town of Tayasir. Photojournalist Cyril Theophilos was forced to the ground as the crew interviewed Palestinians who said they had been attacked by Israeli settlers.

Video from the scene shows armed soldiers approaching the crew, pointing their weapons and ordering them to stop filming and sit down. One soldier knocked a phone from a crew member’s hand and demanded that cameras be turned off before Theophilos was restrained. The crew and the Palestinians they were interviewing were detained for about two hours before being escorted back to their vehicle.

The Israeli military said the incident would be thoroughly reviewed, adding that the soldiers’ conduct was not in line with what is expected of its personnel operating in the area.
