Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the United States is secretly planning a ground attack despite publicly promoting negotiation and dialogue. In a statement carried by the official Islamic Republic News Agency, he accused Washington of attempting to achieve through diplomacy what it failed to accomplish by force.
Ghalibaf said Iranian forces are prepared for a potential ground confrontation and vowed continued military action. He dismissed a 15 point plan conveyed through Pakistan as reflecting American demands for Iran's surrender, which he said Tehran would never accept.
His remarks come one month into a regional war that began on February 28 after air strikes by Israel and the United States killed Iran's supreme leader, triggering a wider conflict across the Middle East. The fighting has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.
Calling for national unity, Ghalibaf described the situation as a major global war at a critical stage and expressed confidence that Iran would retaliate and defend what he described as its legitimate rights.
