Israeli airline Arkia announced it will halt all air operations from Jordan starting Tuesday after Jordanian authorities abruptly changed policy and blocked several planned flights. The sudden decision disrupted departures from Aqaba, particularly flights operated with aircraft leased from European carriers.
The move left hundreds of passengers stranded at the airport and affected thousands overall. Some flights were canceled outright, while others were rerouted through alternative hubs such as Larnaca and Taba. Passengers were either redirected to other airports, split onto different flights, or asked to wait for further updates.
Arkia said it is working to assist affected travelers, including arranging alternative departures for long haul destinations. A small number of flights to Paris are still expected to operate as scheduled. The airline stressed that the restrictions were beyond its control and apologized for the disruption.
