Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and European Council President Antonio Costa have called for dialogue to end the United States-Israeli war on Iran and restore peace in the Middle East. In a telephone conversation, both leaders agreed that diplomacy must prevail to stabilize the region and address the growing global impact of the conflict.
Pakistan has offered to facilitate negotiations, with both Iran and the United States expressing confidence in Islamabad’s mediation efforts. The initiative follows a meeting in Islamabad involving the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Egypt to discuss the crisis, which has disrupted global energy and cargo supplies and threatened regional economies.
Costa welcomed Pakistan’s role in promoting talks and expressed concern over the prolonged war and its worldwide consequences. Sharif also discussed strengthening ties with the European Union, including trade cooperation and an upcoming business forum in Islamabad, and conveyed his intention to visit Brussels at a mutually convenient date.
