Israeli airstrikes killed at least six people across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, according to local health officials, in violence that has strained a five-month ceasefire brokered by the United States. Three people were reported killed in Jabalia in the north, while a father and his son died in a separate strike in Khan Younis in the south.

Later in the day, another airstrike near a police checkpoint in the Mawasi area killed at least one person and wounded eight others. Israeli authorities did not immediately comment on the incidents.

Hamas and Israel have accused each other of violating the truce agreed last October. Gaza health officials say Israeli fire has killed at least 700 people since the ceasefire began, while Israel says four of its soldiers have been killed by militants during the same period.

The conflict follows the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas on Israel that killed 1,200 people and led to 251 hostages being taken. Since then, more than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's military campaign, according to Gaza health authorities, with widespread destruction and displacement reported across the territory.
