Jeremy Corbyn has accused United States President Donald Trump of launching a 'clearly illegal' attack on Iran alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the operation as a catastrophic act of aggression aimed at regime change. He said the missile strikes, which reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had caused further loss of life and risked spiralling into a wider regional conflict. Corbyn warned that without an immediate ceasefire the situation could spread out of control.
Iran retaliated by launching drones and missiles at United States bases across the Middle East and at Israel, while countries in the region closed their airspace amid escalating tensions. Israeli officials claimed there were strong indications that the Iranian Supreme Leader had been killed, though Iranian authorities insisted he remained alive. The strikes reportedly caused significant damage to Iranian leadership compounds and military infrastructure.
In London, Corbyn joined hundreds of protesters in Parliament Square calling for an end to military action against Iran. A separate demonstration organised by Iranian democracy activists supported the strikes and called for the overthrow of the Iranian government. Police imposed conditions on both protests as tensions rose internationally following the large-scale attacks.
