Hezbollah launched rockets into northern Israel, marking its first strike since the November 2024 ceasefire brokered by the United States. The Israeli military said one rocket was intercepted while others landed in open areas, as warning sirens sounded near the northern border over concerns of additional rocket and drone attacks.
Hebrew-language media reports attributed the attack to Hezbollah, which said it acted in retaliation for the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The group claimed it targeted areas near the city of Haifa and pledged to continue confronting what it described as aggression.
In response, Israel began striking Hezbollah positions across Lebanon under a military campaign named Operation Roaring Lion. Israeli officials said they are prepared for the possibility of a broader, multi-front conflict as tensions escalate along the border.
