Reeves 'lacking judgment' over 'friendship' with Islamist preacher

Rachel Reeves has been accused by Reform of showing an 'appalling lack of judgment' over her association with Leeds mosque chairman Arshad Khatana, who has allegedly shared extremist and conspiratorial material online. A dossier released by Reform claims Reeves has been pictured with Khatana 27 times since 2010 and describes him as a 'fanatic' holding 'shocking views'.

The allegations include claims that Khatana shared content featuring an individual linked to a group banned in the United Kingdom, as well as conspiracy theories about the September 11 attacks and antisemitic narratives. His mosque is also said to have hosted a preacher previously accused of making antisemitic remarks. Khatana has reportedly been administratively suspended from the Labour Party pending an investigation.

A Labour spokesperson said Reeves was unaware of the alleged views and does not share them. The controversy comes as Reform intensifies warnings about sectarian politics in Britain and on the eve of Reeves delivering her Spring Statement, which is expected to outline a challenging economic outlook.
