Senior Cypriot officials say a British airbase on the island was struck by an Iranian Shahed drone likely launched by the Iran-backed group Hezbollah from Lebanon. Officials emphasized that the intended target was the base itself, not Cyprus.
The drone reportedly flew at very low altitude, allowing it to evade detection. The strike caused limited damage and no casualties were reported.
Later the same day, two additional drones were detected heading toward the Akrotiri base, prompting sirens and the scrambling of aircraft. According to a Cypriot spokesperson, both drones were intercepted before reaching their target.
