Rights groups report that about 350 Palestinian children are being held in Israeli prisons under harsh conditions, describing the period since October 2023 as the most difficult for detained minors. The organizations say Israeli detention policies amount to organized repression that has affected tens of thousands of children across generations.
Since October 2023, Israeli forces have detained more than 1,700 children in the West Bank, many during nighttime raids in which homes are entered without warning. According to the groups, children are often bound, blindfolded and deprived of food and water for extended periods before reaching detention centers.
The report, released on Palestinian Children's Day, also notes that at least 89 Palestinian prisoners, most from Gaza, have died in Israeli custody since October 2023. It further highlights a new Israeli law imposing the death penalty as the default sentence for Palestinians in the West Bank convicted by military courts of deadly attacks, a measure that does not apply to Israeli settlers tried in civilian courts.
