Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of undermining ceasefire efforts and escalating regional conflict, according to a report by the opposition-aligned outlet Iran International. The report said Pezeshkian confronted Hossein Taeb on April 4, criticizing commanders Ahmad Vahidi and Ali Abdollahi for unilateral actions, particularly attacks on regional infrastructure, which he said had destroyed chances for a ceasefire and were steering the country toward 'a huge catastrophe.'
Pezeshkian reportedly warned that Iran's economy could not endure a prolonged war and faced inevitable collapse under current conditions. Tensions between the president and senior Guard commanders have been growing, with disputes over war management and its economic impact. The report said the Guards have increasingly sidelined the elected government, resisting presidential appointments and asserting control over key wartime positions.
Efforts by Pezeshkian to appoint a new intelligence minister were reportedly blocked, and he was pressured into approving leadership choices favored by the Guards. Separately, the report described worsening conditions among Guard and Basij forces, including shortages of food and supplies, delayed salaries due to banking disruptions, and logistical problems affecting both personnel and missile units.
