A Syrian military source said that four drones launched from Iraq targeted an area near the Qasrak base in northeastern Hasakah province, where United States forces are stationed. According to the source, three of the drones were intercepted by the coalition, while the fourth fell in an open area near the base.
The attack comes amid escalating regional tensions following strikes involving Iran and Israel that have drawn in armed groups across the Middle East. Pro-Tehran Iraqi factions have claimed responsibility for previous attacks on United States interests in Iraq and elsewhere, while they have also been targeted by retaliatory strikes.
In recent weeks, Syria has reported multiple drone attacks originating from Iraq, including incidents near the Qasrak and Al-Tanf bases. Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa has said he is seeking to keep Syria from being drawn further into the widening regional conflict.
