Israeli forces issued demolition orders for dozens of residential and commercial properties in the Palestinian towns of al-Ram, Kafr Aqab and the Qalandiya refugee camp north of occupied East Jerusalem. The areas, though administered by the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem, lie on the Palestinian side of the separation wall, leaving them physically isolated from the rest of the city.
According to Palestinian officials, the notices were delivered under the claim that the buildings lacked construction permits. In Qalandiya refugee camp, residents were evicted from several buildings that were then converted into military outposts. The area sits along a key route between Ramallah and Jerusalem near a military checkpoint.
The Palestinian Authority said the measures are part of a broader strategy aimed at fragmenting Palestinian communities. Since 1967, Israel has pursued a demolition policy in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem that Palestinians say restricts urban growth and separates towns through settlements and military zones.
International organizations have also raised concerns about widespread destruction in Gaza since October 2023, reporting extensive damage to homes, hospitals, schools and commercial facilities. Allegations of war crimes have led to arrest warrants for several Israeli leaders by the International Criminal Court.
