A dog rescued from severe injuries in Romania has become a certified therapy dog in Norfolk, bringing comfort to elderly care home residents. Clement was found in a ditch after being attacked by two dogs and hit by a car, and was nursed back to health by volunteers before being adopted by Norwich resident Stephanie Israel.
Now nine years old, Clement works with the charity Canine Concern, visiting Ashfields Care Home in Rackheath every two weeks. Israel said his calm and affectionate nature makes him especially suited to working with older people, particularly those living with dementia. She added that his name means merciful and gentle, which perfectly reflects his temperament.
Care home staff said Clement’s visits bring comfort and joy, often prompting residents to share memories of their own pets. For some people with dementia, time spent with Clement helps spark conversation and positive memories, highlighting the powerful role animal companionship can play in enhancing wellbeing.
