Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon on Wednesday killed more than 200 people, most of them civilians, according to a Lebanese military source. The strikes, described by Israel as targeting Hezbollah command centers and military sites, marked the largest assault since the war began in early March. Residential neighborhoods in Beirut, Tyre and other areas were heavily hit.

Among those killed was longtime radio host Ghada Dayekh, whose home in Tyre was destroyed. She had continued broadcasting from her house after her station was previously bombed. In Beirut, poet Khatoun Salma and her husband were killed under the rubble of their home, prompting tributes from fellow writers and artists who remembered her as a gentle and devoted voice in Arabic literature.

Other victims included Nader Khalil, a veteran employee at a well-known nut roastery in Beirut, and Ola Al-Attar, a widow whose husband had died in the 2020 Beirut port explosion. Al-Attar, who had sought justice for that tragedy, was killed in a strike on the medical clinic where she worked, leaving her two daughters orphaned.

Rana Shaya, a volunteer helping displaced families, was also killed when a strike hit a pharmacy where she was collecting medicine. She is survived by her husband and two sons, as communities across Lebanon mourn civilians whose lives were cut short in the widening conflict.
