The Kerala government has decided to cancel the Class 10 and Class 12 state board examinations scheduled in Gulf region centres due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The exams had already been suspended earlier, and authorities concluded that schools in the region are unlikely to reopen soon.
A high-level meeting chaired by the general education minister resolved to explore alternative methods to assess students. For Class 10 students, officials are considering marks obtained in model and term examinations, while for Class 12 students, the average marks from the first-year higher secondary examinations may be used.
Since examinations in Kerala have already concluded and paper evaluation is underway, the government plans to seek approval from the Election Commission before formally announcing the decision, as the model code of conduct is currently in force. Other education boards have also cancelled Class 10 and Class 12 examinations in the Gulf region.
