Nearly 100 pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested in London during a demonstration in Trafalgar Square supporting the banned group Palestine Action. Police carried away activists as others cheered, with 92 arrests reported by early evening involving individuals aged between 27 and 82.
Palestine Action was designated a terrorist organization last July, making support for the group a criminal offense punishable by up to 14 years in prison. The High Court ruled in mid-February that the ban interfered with freedom of speech, prompting police to pause arrests before resuming them in late March. The government has been granted permission to appeal the ruling.
Protesters said they were determined to continue demonstrating despite the risk of arrest, describing the crackdown as misguided. Organizers estimated around 500 people attended and accused the government of complicity in Israel's actions in Gaza. A judge has suspended all trials related to support for Palestine Action pending a broader review scheduled for July 30.
