Lebanon's Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi said that upcoming direct talks with Israel demonstrate that Lebanon's ceasefire efforts are separate from negotiations between the United States and Iran. In a message shared after speaking with Germany's foreign minister, Raggi emphasized that Lebanon is pursuing a ceasefire with Israel through its own diplomatic track.
Raggi stated that these direct negotiations reinforce the separation between Lebanon's situation and broader regional discussions involving Iran. His remarks came after Iran called for a halt to Israeli attacks on Hezbollah to be included in any agreement with the United States during recent talks in Pakistan.
He also underscored that the Lebanese state alone has the authority to negotiate on behalf of the country. The statement appeared aimed at reaffirming Lebanon's national sovereignty and limiting the role of Hezbollah and external actors in determining the country's diplomatic course.
