US blockade faces early test as Chinese-linked tanker exits unchallenged

A tanker linked to Chinese interests and sanctioned by the United States has sailed out of the Strait of Hormuz without interference, posing an early test for President Donald Trump's newly announced naval blockade targeting Iranian traffic. The vessel, Rich Starry, resumed its outbound journey and exited the strategic waterway shortly after the blockade came into force.

The ship, a combined chemical and oil tanker, is listed by the United States Treasury for its alleged involvement in transporting Iranian products. It is believed to be operating under a fraudulent flag and is associated with a shipping company previously placed under sanctions. Tracking data showed the vessel had been waiting near the Gulf of Oman before attempting the crossing.

It is not yet confirmed whether the tanker was carrying Iranian oil. Meanwhile, another sanctioned vessel, Murlikishan, entered the strait and is expected to load fuel oil in Iraq later this week. The developments highlight the immediate challenges facing enforcement of the United States blockade in one of the world's most critical shipping corridors.
