United States President Donald Trump has cancelled a planned visit by his envoys to Pakistan, where they were scheduled to meet Iranian leaders in Islamabad for peace talks. Trump said the trip would have wasted too much time on travel and claimed there was confusion and infighting within Iran's leadership.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the United States holds the upper hand and urged Iran to initiate contact if it wants negotiations. He added that no one appears to be in charge in Tehran, criticising the country’s leadership.
The cancellation came shortly after an Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concluded meetings with Pakistani officials and left Islamabad. The delegation reportedly presented a list of demands aimed at advancing a broader Middle East solution. With the Iranian team now planning visits to Oman and Russia, Pakistan’s hopes of serving as a mediator between Washington and Tehran appear uncertain.
