United States President Donald Trump has said Aberdeen 'should be booming' as he criticised the United Kingdom Government for not expanding oil and gas production in the North Sea. Writing on his social media platform, he described the refusal to open more drilling as 'absolutely crazy' and argued that Europe is in desperate need of energy.
Trump claimed that Norway is profiting by selling North Sea oil to the United Kingdom at high prices and said Britain is better positioned geographically to benefit from the resource. He urged the country to increase drilling and repeated his opposition to wind energy projects.
His remarks add to previous criticism of British energy policy, particularly its shift toward renewable power. In response, a spokesperson for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said the government is focused on reducing living costs and moving away from fossil fuels toward clean, homegrown energy sources.
