The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has reported a significant rise in vegetation cover within the reserve, reflecting the success of its regulatory and environmental protection efforts. According to a recent report, the number of recorded plant species increased from 197 in 2024 to 241 in 2025, with 44 species newly documented over the past year.
The growth in plant diversity highlights rapid ecosystem recovery across the reserve. The authority said these achievements support its broader goals of conserving biodiversity and promoting sustainability, in alignment with national environmental initiatives aimed at ecosystem restoration and wildlife support.
Spanning 130,700 square kilometers across Jouf, Hail, Northern Borders and Tabuk, the reserve is the largest terrestrial nature reserve in the Middle East and features a wide range of habitats and terrain.
