A senior military adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader has threatened to sink American ships in the Strait of Hormuz if the United States moves to police the strategic waterway. The warning comes as Washington imposes a military blockade after Iran halted shipping traffic for more than six weeks during a conflict that is currently paused under a fragile two week ceasefire.
The adviser, a former commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, said American naval vessels would be vulnerable to Iranian missiles and could be destroyed if deployed in the strait. He also suggested that a ground invasion by the United States would lead to mass hostage taking, claiming Iran could leverage captives for financial gain.
The adviser, considered a hardliner within Iran's military establishment, added that he personally opposed extending the ceasefire. He previously led the Revolutionary Guards for more than a decade and remains a prominent and influential figure in Iran's security apparatus.
