Iran has declared that the Strait of Hormuz is open to commercial shipping following the start of a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said all commercial vessels could pass through the strait on a coordinated route designated by Iran's Ports and Maritime Organisation. State television later cited a senior military official who confirmed that ships must follow a specific route and that military vessels remain barred from passage.

Despite the announcement, maritime monitoring groups report minimal ship movement and say they are still assessing whether the route is safe. Some Iranian media outlets criticised the foreign minister's statement as unclear, warning that safe passage could be invalidated if a United States naval blockade continues.

The development comes amid broader regional tensions involving Iran, Israel, and Hezbollah. At the same time, diplomatic efforts to end the conflict are ongoing, while Iran has rejected claims that it agreed to transfer its stockpile of enriched uranium abroad.
