Trump rebukes Energy Secretary for shock admission on gas prices

President Donald Trump publicly contradicted his Energy Secretary, Chris Wright, after Wright suggested that gasoline prices might not fall below three dollars per gallon until next year. Gasoline prices have risen by more than a dollar amid escalating conflict with Iran and now average above four dollars per gallon nationwide, intensifying economic concerns among voters.

In a recent interview, Wright said prices may have already peaked but cautioned that significant declines could depend on resolving the conflict with Iran. Trump rejected Wright’s timeline, calling it 'totally wrong' and expressing confidence that prices would drop sooner, possibly before the upcoming midterm elections. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also voiced optimism that prices could return to the three dollar range by summer.

The administration continues to push for diplomatic progress with Iran as a ceasefire deadline approaches. While both sides recently signaled that a key shipping route would reopen to commerce, new military actions in the region have unsettled markets and pushed oil prices higher again, casting uncertainty over future energy costs and peace negotiations.
