Apple announces leadership change
Tim Cook said he will step down later this year after nearly 15 years as chief executive of Apple, a period in which annual profits grew to more than 110 billion dollars. He will become executive chairman in September. John Ternus, the head of hardware engineering who has overseen development of products including Mac computers and tablets, will take over as chief executive.

Tragedy in Louisiana
Authorities in Shreveport, Louisiana, are investigating a shooting in which a 31 year old man killed eight children, seven of them his own, and wounded two adults. Police said the victims were shot execution style and have not announced a motive. Family members said the suspect had struggled with mental health issues and recent personal stress.
