A fragile ceasefire between the United States, Iran and Israel remains in place, but tensions have shifted into a so called war of blockades in the Strait of Hormuz, where both sides are intercepting and seizing commercial vessels. The standoff in one of the world's most critical waterways has created a volatile atmosphere, raising fears that the situation could quickly spiral out of control.

In Islamabad, hopes of hosting peace talks between Tehran and Washington have faded for now. Pakistan had positioned itself as a potential broker, sealing off parts of the city in anticipation of high level delegations. However, the expected breakthrough has not materialised, dampening expectations that Pakistan could secure a diplomatic victory by bringing the two adversaries together.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has vowed to continue efforts toward a negotiated settlement, while President Donald Trump has suggested a deal could still emerge within days. Iran, however, accuses Washington of breaching commitments and points to what it calls contradictory behaviour from the American president, whose shifting statements have added uncertainty to the diplomatic landscape.

Questions also linger over internal divisions within Iran's leadership, described by Trump as seriously fractured. With much of the old leadership weakened or gone, uncertainty over who holds authority in Tehran may be complicating already fragile diplomatic efforts.
