Former Israeli Navy commander Eliezer Marom voiced support for the Chief of Staff’s decision to dismiss former Military Advocate General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, arguing that her ongoing legal proceedings make her continued service unjustifiable. He said the move carries little practical impact since she is already effectively outside the military system, adding that the decision mainly prevents her from continuing to receive a military salary. Marom also noted that others accused of more serious offenses have still received pensions, describing the situation as painful and urging the public to allow her and her family privacy.
Marom also addressed rising tensions with Iran in the Persian Gulf, reacting to reports of an American strike on Iranian vessels allegedly attempting to lay naval mines. He described the development as unusual and warned that deploying mines at sea could have catastrophic consequences, particularly if a large fuel tanker were to explode and cause massive environmental destruction.
Discussing Iran’s broader regional posture, Marom suggested that Tehran may believe it holds a strategic advantage and is interested in preserving diplomatic engagement. He argued that Iran views itself as having gained ground in recent confrontations and pointed to its reported insistence on including Lebanon in ceasefire discussions as a sign of its influence.
Marom concluded by expressing concern for residents of northern Israel living under continued threat. He criticized the political leadership for not communicating more directly and transparently with the public, saying leaders must openly address the difficult security reality and help citizens manage expectations amid ongoing tensions.
