The Indian Navy thwarted a possible piracy attack on the merchant vessel Mashallah 1 in the Western Indian Ocean after receiving reports of suspicious activity nearby. The naval warship Kolkata, deployed close to the Gulf of Aden, responded swiftly to the alert and launched an immediate operation.
The warship deployed its onboard helicopter for aerial surveillance and conducted boarding operations to assess and neutralize any potential threat. The timely intervention ensured the safety of the merchant vessel and its crew.
India has maintained continuous anti piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since 2008 to safeguard commercial shipping routes. The incident occurred amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following the conflict between the United States and Iran that began on February 28.
