The European Union has warned it may impose sanctions on individuals or entities linked to reports that a Russian vessel carrying grain from Russian-occupied Ukraine was allowed to dock at Israel's port of Haifa. The European bloc said it condemns any actions that could help finance Russia's war effort or bypass its sanctions regime.
A spokesperson said the European Union is prepared to target those involved, including in third countries, if necessary. The statement followed reports of the ship unloading in Israel and growing diplomatic tensions over the matter.
In coordination with Ukraine, the European Union has formally requested additional information from Israeli authorities. Ukraine also summoned Israel's envoy in Kyiv to protest the alleged incident and to urge Israel not to accept another similar vessel.
