The war in Iran has cost the United States $25 billion so far, according to a senior official from the Department of Defense. The estimate, shared with the House Armed Services Committee, marks the first official accounting of the conflict's financial toll. Most of the spending has gone toward munitions, though the figure does not clarify whether it includes future rebuilding and infrastructure repair costs in the Middle East.

The conflict, which began on February 28, has resulted in the deaths of thirteen American troops and injuries to hundreds more. The United States has deployed tens of thousands of additional forces to the region and maintained three aircraft carriers there, even as both sides observe a fragile ceasefire.

Rising costs at home, including higher gasoline and fertilizer prices linked to disruptions in oil and natural gas shipments, have added political pressure ahead of midterm elections. Public support for the war has declined steadily, with recent polling showing only 34 percent of Americans approving of the conflict.
