Israel has indicted Yona Schreiber, a 36-year-old man from the West Bank settlement of Peduel, for allegedly attacking a Catholic nun near Jerusalem's Old City. Prosecutors charged him with simple assault and assault motivated by religious hostility after he was accused of pushing and kicking the nun because she was wearing religious attire. A passerby who tried to intervene was also reportedly attacked.

The assault, which was captured on video and widely condemned, is the latest in a series of incidents targeting Christians and religious symbols. Christian leaders and monitoring groups have reported a rise in harassment and violence against clergy, pilgrims, and Palestinian Christian residents, particularly in Jerusalem's Old City.

The case comes amid broader scrutiny of Israel's treatment of religious minorities. Recent controversies have included restrictions on Christian worship at holy sites and separate incidents involving Israeli soldiers accused of desecrating Christian statues. Israeli officials have condemned those acts and reiterated the country's commitment to religious freedom, while some Christian representatives argue that enforcement and deterrence remain insufficient.
